When work becomes mentally crowded, a short pause can be more realistic than waiting for a long break. This five-minute routine is intended for general wellbeing rather than treatment of a neurological condition.
Minute 1: slow the pace
Sit comfortably and allow your breathing to become slower and more relaxed without forcing deep breaths.
Minute 2: move away from the screen
Look at a distant object, blink naturally and let your eyes rest from close focus.
Minute 3: relax your posture
Drop the shoulders, unclench the jaw and make small comfortable movements if your neck and back tolerate them.
Minute 4: hydrate
Have some water if appropriate for you. People with fluid restrictions should follow their doctor’s advice.
Minute 5: choose one next task
Return to work with one clear priority instead of switching between several unfinished tasks.
Important safety note
If you have severe dizziness, recent stroke, seizures, significant balance problems or recent surgery, ask your treating clinician what type of exercise or relaxation routine is suitable.
Discuss your symptoms with a neurologist.
Bring your symptom timeline, current medicines and any previous reports to make your consultation more useful.
